The Terrier women's tennis team evened its spring record at 1-1 with an impressive 6-1 win over Colgate University on Saturday (February 7th) at the Boston Tennis Club.
B.U. had lost its only previous outing-a 5-2 loss to Penn State the week before.
En route to the win over Colgate, the Terriers never lost a set as they swept to straight-set victories at numbers one through five singles and all three doubles matches.
Their only loss came at number six singles were senior Hsiao Ning Ham (Jersey City, NJ) had to withdraw because of a recurring foot problem. B.U. opened the match by winning all three doubles matches, thus coming away with the single point.
Junior Christina Causway (Wilson, NC) and senior Carrie Rose (Bloomfield Hills, MI) won their number one doubles match, 8-2. Freshmen Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) and Hannah Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, NM) posted an 8-0 win at number two doubles. The Terriers earned the sweep of the doubles play when Ham and sophomore Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) won their match, 8-2.
In the singles matches, Causway defeated Lauren Erikson, 6-1, 6-0; Rose posted a 6-0, 6-2, win over Jenny Buntman at number two; deMendoza swept Nicole Scattolini at number three, 6-2, 6-2; Marcu bested Lorraine Coulter, 6-2, 6-0, at number four; and Bartell defeated Lindsey Suffredini, 6-1, 6-2, at number five.
