The Terrier women's tennis team improved its spring record to 3-1 with its third straight victory-a 6-1 decision over Temple University on Sunday (February 25th) at the Boston Tennis Club.
With the win, the Terriers swept their weekend series vs. Army and Temple. On Saturday, B.U. posted an impressive 7-0 blanking of Army.
It was also B.U.'s last match before they headed south to Florida for its annual spring break.
The Terriers dominated the Owls beginning with wins at numbers one and three doubles. B.U. also won at number two doubles after the Temple team had to retire following the second game.
In the singles play, the Terriers won four of the five matches that were contested, while Temple had to forfeit at number six singles.
"This was a big win for us," said Terrier head coach Lesley Sheehan. "We beat Temple in the fall, 5-2, in the ECAC Tournament. But, many of our matches went to three sets. Today, with the exception of one match that went to three sets, we had straight set victories.
"I think Carrie might have had the biggest win," the coach said of senior co-captain Carrie Rose (Bloomfield Hills, MI), who won at number two, 6-1, 5-6, 6-4, over Tamara Truta. "Carrie lost to her in straight sets in the fall, but came back to beat her today."
The Terriers' other wins in singles came at number three where freshman Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) defeated Lara Ercegovic, 6-4, 6-3; at number four where freshman Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) won in straight sets over Tanya Zecic, 6-3, 6-5; and at number five where sophomore Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) defeated Nina Kumar, 6-1, 6-1.
Senior co-captain Hsiao Ning Ham (Jersey City, NJ) won her number six singles match by default.
B.U.'s lone loss came at number one singles where junior Christina Causway (Wilson, NC) lost to Danira Penic, 5-6, 4-6.
In the doubles play, Causway and Rose defeated Penic and Truta, 8-5, and at number three where Marcu and Ham posted an 8-3 win over Zecic and Kumar. Dynoff and deMendoza had a 2-0 lead over Ercegovic and Katrinia Kramcivic when the Temple twosome had to retire.
