The Terrier women's tennis team put on an impressive showing on Saturday (February 24th) en route to a 7-0 blanking of Army at the Boston Tennis Club. It was the second straight win for the Terriers, who are now 2-1 during the spring season.
B.U. opened by sweeping the Cadets in the doubles play to earn the one point. They then won the first four singles matches in straight sets to sew up the win. With the win already assured, the fifth and sixth singles matches went to an eight-game pro set. Here, too, the Terriers posted wins.
"This was the first time we have ever played Army, and we were very aggressive," said head coach Lesley Sheehan.
The match also featured the return to action of freshman Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ). She played in the spring season opener against Penn State but missed the Colgate match with Achilles tendonitis.
Against Army, Dynof won her number four singles match over Melanie Bundos, 6-3, 6-5 (7-3) and then teamed with classmate Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) to win at number two doubles, 8-5, over Ali Rohr and Melanie Bundoc. In the other doubles matches, junior Christina Causway (Wilson, NC) and senior Carrie Rose (Bloomfield Hills, MI) defeated Cheryl Hamilton and Annie Collier, 8-4, while sophomore Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) and senior Hsiao Ning Ham (Jersey City, NJ) bested Melissa Sentelle and Sara Matthews, 8-5.
In singles, Causway lost just one game en route to an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hamilton at number one. Rose defeated Collier, 6-3, 6-4, at number two; deMendoza beat Rohr, 6-4, 6-3; Marcu had an 8-2 win over Sentelle at number five; and freshman Hannah Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) defeated Lauren Leftin by the identical 8-2 score.
