Terriers Drop Tough Decision to VCU
March 30, 2001 | Women's Tennis
The Terrier women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision on Saturday (March 24th) to host Virginia Commonwealth, a team that entered the match ranked 53rd in the in the nation.
The doubles play turned out to be the turning point as the Rams won two of the three matches and thus came away with the one point. Junior Christina Causeway (Wilson, NC), sophomore Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ), and freshman Hannah Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) each posted singles wins at numbers one, five, and six respectively. Causeway scored a 6-2, 4-6, 10-8 decision, while Marcu posted an impressive 6-0, 6-0, blanking, as she improved her singles record to a team-best 8-3 mark. In the meantime, Bartell, who is now 6-5 this spring, won her match by default.
Unfortunately, the three wins were not enough to offset VCU's two-of-three wins in doubles.
At number one, Causway and senior Carrie Rose (Bloomfield Hills, MI) lost 8-6, while freshmen Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) and Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) lost 8-1. Marcu and senior Hsiao Ning Ham (Jersey City, NJ) won their match by default.
The loss brings BU's overall record to 5-6 as they take on Dartmouth in New Hampshire on Saturday (March 31).
