Finateri hits seventh home run of season as Terriers drop second consecutive game.
Storrs, Conn. - The Boston University softball team dropped its second consecutive game, falling to University of Connecticut, 4-1, at the UConn Softball Field on Thursday.
The Huskies (25-18) loaded the bases in the first and second innings, but could not score a run. In the bottom of the third inning, UConn senior pitcher Megan Biddle put the Huskies up 1-0 with a solo home run down the left field line.
The Terriers answered in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run by sophomore left fielder Tiffany Finateri that tied the score at 1-1. The homer to center field was her team-leading seventh of the season.
The Huskies reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning, on a fielder's choice that scored senior center fielder Sarah Sandford from third base to make the score 2-1. In the sixth UConn put the game away, scoring two runs on three hits. Freshman catcher Jessica Bigos hit an RBI double to right center, and senior shortstop Jessica Yanosy hit a sacrifice fly that scored junior second baseman Lisa Girolamo from third.
Boston University sophomore pitcher Robyn Horrick (13-7) pitched a complete game, giving up 11 hits and four earned runs. She walked three and struck out one Husky batter. UConn's Biddle (7-6) pitched five and 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and one run while walking two and striking out six.
The Terriers (28-13), currently in first place in the America East standings with a 15-3 record, stay on the road as they travel to Hartford, Conn. for a four-game series against conference opponent Hartford on Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29. Game time on Saturday is 1 p.m., and on Sunday is 12 p.m.
