Terrier Women Shut Out Connecticut in ECAC's

The women's tennis team blanked the University of Connecticut, 6-0, on Saturday (October 12) in the ECAC tournament in New York, as the Terriers lost just one match and that was at number three doubles.
B.U. set the tone from the outset as it won two of the three doubles matches and thus won the team point. Juniors Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) and Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) won 8-1, at number one doubles, while the freshman team of Zuzana Melicherova (Caracas, Venezuela) and Laura Ahmes (Sarasota, FL) combined to win 8-4 at second doubles. Senior captain Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) and freshman Monica Shepherd (Austin, TX) lost a hard-fought match at number three doubles, 8-6. In singles play, BU won the first five matches, while the sixth was not completed. Hence, the final margin of 6-0. In the singles play, top-seeded deMendoza won by a 6-2, 6-2 decision. She was followed by Dynof at number two who won 6-0, 6-2. Number three Melicherova and number four Ahmes had the most one-sided matches with identical 6-1, 6-0 victories. Finally, Marcu won her match at number five, 6-2, 6-3. The only Terrier who did not complete her match was freshman Aimee Charest (Somerset), who played at number six.
