Terriers Close Season With 2-0 Win Over Albany
November 3, 2002 | Women's Soccer

Meghann Cook and Suzanne Hudak each scored a goal, while Jessica Clinton and Tiffany Baalman combined for a shutout as the Terrier women's soccer team blanked Albany University, 2-0, in an America East match on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field.
The game closed out the season for the Terriers, as their hopes for advancing to the America East Tournament was dashed when Northeastern defeated Vermont, 2-1. As a result, Northeastern finished fourth in the conference standings to wrap up the fourth and final berth in the playoffs.

It marked the first time since 1997 that the Terriers have failed to make the league tournament. The two-time defending conference champions, B.U. finished its season with a 7-10-2 overall record and a 4-3-1 mark in the league.

Sunday's win over Albany provided a measure of satisfaction for the Terriers, especially for the seniors who closed out their collegiate careers-tri-captains Allison Merkle and Hudak along with Baalman and Tiffany Chag.
"It was a nice way for the seniors to finish out," said head coach Nancy Feldman. "Today, we did what we had to in order to win.
"We created a lot of scoring chances and had a lot of corner kicks," the coach continued. "Unfortunately, as has been the problem all season, we didn't finish off a lot of our chances, and we scored just two goals."
The Terriers dominated play throughout, outshooting Albany by a lopsided 35-2 margin and taking nine corner kicks to none for the Great Danes.

B.U. scored the only goal it would need in the 16th minute of action when Cook took a feed from Rebecca Beyer, dribbled the ball down the center of the field and fired from just inside the box. Her shot beat Albany goalie Erika VanZandt, and the Terriers had a 1-0 lead at the 15:55 mark of the match. Susan Marschall also had an assist.
Hudak provided an insurance goal just 25 seconds into the second half when her shot to the left of VanZandt beat the goalie. Cook earned the assist as she fed the ball to Hudak.
Clinton, who played the first half, had one save, while Baalman, who played the second half did not have to make any saves.
