Terriers Bounce Back With Huge Win Against Cincinnati
March 17, 2002 | Women's Tennis

After a disappointing loss to Ohio State University on Saturday (March 16th), the Terriers came out strong against the University of Cincinnati the next day, and edged Cincinnati, 4-3, in "the best match of the year," according to head coach Lesley Sheehan.
"We played some great tennis," said the Terrier coach. "This was a huge win for us."
The outcome wasn't decided, though, until sophomore Elisa Glas (Irun, Spain) won the final match of the day at number six singles. With both teams owning three points, Glas defeated her opponent, 6-4, 6-3, and earned the Terriers the fourth and deciding point of the match.
The Terriers are now 3-5 for the spring and 5-6 for the season.
At the start of the match, the Terriers quickly found themselves down a point after losing all three doubles matches. Senior captain Christina Causway (Wilson, NC) and sophomore Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) lost at number one, 8-5. Junior Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) and sophomore Hannah Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) lost at number two, 8-4, and freshman Silvia Guglielmi (Rome, Italy) and sophomore Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) lost at number three, 8-5.
Thus, the Terriers entered the singles play trailing 1-0.
In the singles competition, Causway led the way for the Terriers with an impressive victory at the top singles spot. After losing the first set 6-1, she came back and won the next two sets 7-6, 6-4. Dynof kept the momentum going for the Terriers with a straight set victory in the second position by a score of 6-2, 6-3.
The Terriers needed two more points to cap the victory. However, the University of Cincinnati was not ready to concede the victory to the Terriers. Cincinnati made a run, and won the numbers three and five singles matches. deMendoza lost, 6-3, 6-1, at number three, while Marcu lost 6-1, 6-1 at number five.
That left it up to Glas at number six singles, and she responded with her straight sets' win
