Terriers Drop Tough Decision To FAU
March 5, 2002 | Women's Tennis

The Terrier women's tennis team lost the match point for doubles and it proved to be the deciding factor as it dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision to host Florida Atlantic University on Tuesday (March 5th). The loss evened the Terriers' spring record to 1-1.
The match opened with the doubles competition and Florida Atlantic swept all three matches, and, with it, went one point. As each team won three singles matches, the loss in doubles was pivotal.
Two of the three doubles matches were decided by just two games as the final scores were 8-6. Freshman Silvia Guglielmi (Rome, Italy) and sophomore Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) lost at number two. Junior Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) and sophomore Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) lost by the identical 8-6 score at number three. At number one doubles, senior Christina Causway (Wilson, NC) and sophomore Hannah Bartell (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) lost, 8-3.
In singles, Causway looked very impressive in a straight set victory at number one, 6-2, 6-4. Guglielmi also had little trouble in winning at number four, 6-1, 6-1. Finally, sophomore Elisa Glas (Irun, Spain) won her first set at number six, 6-4. Before the match could go into a second set, though, her opponent, Jessica Burrow, was forced to retire.
In a very tough, highly-competitive match at second singles, Dynof won her first set, 6-4, but lost the next two sets, 2-6, 3-6.
The other two losses in singles were at number three singles where deMendoza lost, 6-3, 6-3, and at number five where Marcu lost, 6-4, 6-2.
