Rebekah Conway, a three-time All-Conference soccer goalkeeper at Billerica High School, has signed a letter of intent to attend Boston University in the fall. The announcement was made by Terrier head coach Nancy Feldman.
A three-year starter at Billerica, Conway has maintained a 1.00 goals against average during her scholastic career. Her play earned her First Team All-Merrimack Valley Conference honors as a sophomore, junior, and senior. She was also named Lowell Sun First Team All-Star as a junior and senior and was an EMass All-Star selection her senior year. In addition, she played for the Spirit of Massachusetts Girl's Soccer Club and led her team to the 2001 Virginian Tournament Championship.
An outstanding student, as well, Becky is in the top five percent of her class and is a member of the National Honor Society. During her junior and senior years, she received the Billerica Memorial H.S. Summa Award, which is presented annually for excellence in academics and extracurricular activities.
"We are thrilled to have Becky join our program," said Feldman. "She has had a terrific high school career and is the kind of athletic competitor that we strive to bring into our program.
"This season, I expect she will provide depth in the goalkeeping position," predicted Feldman. "She will train to become a top level goalkeeper for our program in the future."
With Conway's decision to come to Boston University, it brings the incoming freshman class to four outstanding prospects, as Feldman earlier announced the following players have signed letters of intent.
Brooke Bingham, a central midfielder from Duxbury, MA, who scored 68 goals and had 76 assists in her high school career while attending Duxbury High School. She was a two-time Eastern Massachusetts and Division II All-State selection, and a two-time Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic team member. She was also the 2001 Patriot Ledger Player of the Year. She plays club soccer for the Boston Bolts, who were state champions in 2000 and 2001. In addition, Bingham played on the Massachusetts State Team from 1997-2001 and was an Adidas ESP All Star in 2001.
Meghann Cook, a forward from Melrose, MA, was an Eastern Massachusetts All-Star and All-State selection both her junior and senior years while attending Bishop Fenwick High School. She earned All-New England honors and was the Division II and Boston Globe Player of the Year her senior year. Cook was also the MVP for the Catholic Central League while leading Bishop Fenwick to the Division II North final. Cook, along with Brooke Bingham, also plays club for the Boston Bolts, winning two State championships in 2000 and 2001. She was a member of the Massachusetts State Team from 1996-2000.
Brittany McDonald, a defender from Lindenhurst, NY, was a three-time varsity MVP for Lindenhurst High School. She earned All League honors two years in a row, in addition to All-County and All-State honors in 2001. McDonald plays club soccer for the HBC Fury, who was 2001 regional champions and earned three state championships from 1999-2001. In addition, she has been a member of the ENY State Team since 1997.
The Terriers are coming off a season in which they won the America East Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year. This season, the Terrier will face one of the toughest schedules in the history, as it includes seven teams that played in last fall's NCAA tournament.
