Haas, Horrick Earn America East Weekly Honors

BOSTON - Two Boston University softball players earned America East weekly honors this week. Freshman shortstop Jamie Haas (Houston, TX) and junior pitcher Robyn Horrick (Irvine, CA) were named the conference's Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their performances in leading the Terriers to a 4-1 record during the week.
Haas became the second Terrier freshman in as many weeks to earn the league's Player of the Week award. Last week, pitcher/center fielder Julie Henneke (Philadelphia, PA) earned the award after going 9-for-15 with three home runs. Haas was also named America East Rookie of the Week on April 2.
Haas' bat was just as hot this week. She batted .647, going 11-for-17 from the plate. She hit safely in each of the team's five games. Her three-run, inside-the-park home run was the difference in a 5-2 win over Holy Cross. She was a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases, and did not commit an error in 16 chances at short. During the week, she also contributed three doubles and a triple, and scored one run in each of the games.
Horrick earned B. U.'s first Pitcher of the Week award this season, after pitching the Terriers to two conference wins at Albany. She logged 12.0 innings pitched in the two games, allowing only three hits while striking out 15 and walking only two. She did not give up an earned run. She had 11 strikeouts in a two-hit, complete-game win over the Great Danes. The right-hander combined with freshman DeKenya Williams (San Diego, CA) to one-hit Albany on the way to a 2-0 win.
Last week, Henneke led the team in a number of offensive categories, but this week Haas has supplanted her. Haas is leading the team, and the conference, in batting (.373), on-base percentage (.405), hits (41), triples (5), total bases (56), and stolen bases (11). Her 41 hits also lead the conference, as does her five triples.
Horrick remains the Terriers top pitching threat this season. Through games played on Sunday, April 14, she leads the conference in earned run average with a 0.73.
The Terriers (16-19, 10-2 America East) next play host to Maine on Wednesday, April 17, in a doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The games are the first in a stretch of six-straight home games. B. U. hosts Binghamton for a four-game series this weekend.
