Terriers Come From Behind To Defeat Eagles, 4-3
April 9, 2002 | Women's Tennis

The Terrier women's tennis team, trailing 3-1 with three singles matches still on the court, won all three of those matches and defeated host Boston College, 4-3, on Tuesday (April 9th).
B.U., which improved its spring record to 4-7, trailed 1-0 entering the singles competition as BC won the doubles point by virtue of its winning two of the three doubles matches.
When the Eagles won two of the three singles matches, they increased their lead over the Terriers to 3-1 and needed to win just one of the three singles matches that were still being contested.
The Terriers closed the gap to 3-2 when senior captain Christina Causway (Wilson, NC) won her match at number one.
Junior Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) tied the match, 3-3, when she won the decisive third set of her number three singles match, 7-6.
That left it to freshman Silvia Guglielmi (Rome, Italy), who was involved in a three-set match at number four singles. Guglielmi, who earlier had teamed with Causway to lose a hard-fought match at number one doubles, won her final singles set, 6-4, to give the Terriers their victory.
"This was a great win for us," said Terrier head coach Lesley Sheehan. "I knew it was going to be a tough match because both our teams are so evenly matched. As I thought it might happen, it came down to the third set of the final match. I was really proud the way our players battled back for the victory."
It was the fourth straight 4-3 decision in which the Terriers have been involved and the fifth this spring. With the victory over BC, B.U. is now 2-3 in the one-point matches. On March 7th, in their final match of their Florida spring trip, the Terriers lost to Florida Atlantic. Most recently, in their previous three outings prior to the BC match, the Terriers beat Cincinnati on March 17th, lost to Brown on March 20th, and lost to Dartmouth on March 30th.
