Softball To Open NCAA Regional Play Against No. 2 Arizona

BOSTON - The Boston University softball team, fresh off winning its fifth America East championship on May 11, will travel to Minneapolis, MN, and play the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats on the first day of the double-elimination NCAA Regional, set to begin on Thursday, May 16.
The Terriers (28-21) will be seeded sixth in the six team regional, with the Wildcats claiming the top seed. Other teams in the regional include No. 2 Depaul (46-9) from Conference USA, No. 3 Minnesota (35-19) of the Big 10, No. 4 Princeton (34-16), the Ivy League champion, and No. 5 Penn State (32-24), an at-large selection out of the Big 10.
The only teams in the regional that B. U. has faced this season are Penn State and Minnesota. B. U. and Penn State met on Feb. 22 in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, GA. B. U. was a 3-2 winner in that game, with junior Robyn Horrick (Irvine, CA) taking the win. The Terriers opened their season with an 0-2 loss to Minnesota on Feb. 15 in the UNC Triangle Classic.
The Terriers have never met Arizona in softball.
B. U. has an 1-6 overall record against its regional opponents. The Terriers are 1-3 against Penn State, 0-2 against Princeton, and 0-1 against Minnesota. Last season, B. U. was 0-2 against the Nittany Lions.
