October 20, 2003 | Women's Soccer
Terrier sophomore Susan Marschall, who scored the game-winning goals in the Terriers' league wins over Albany and New Hampshire last week, has been named the America East Women's Soccer Player of the Week.
Marschall, who finished the week with two goals and an assist for five points, scored the Terriers' first goal in their 4-0 win over Albany last Wednesday, October 16th. She then opened the scoring in their 2-0 win over the University of New Hampshire on Sunday, October 19th. In addition, she assisted on Melissa Shulman's insurance goal in the win over the Wildcats.
The two conference victories improved the Terriers' league record to 4-0-1 and kept them in a first-place tie with the University of Maine. B.U., which opened the week with a 2-0 loss to Princeton, is 8-4-4 overall this year and is off until Friday night when it hosts the University of Hartford at 7:00 p.m.
Marschall's offensive output last week brought her season total to 5 goals and 2 assists for 12 points in 16 games. She is second only to Shulman in both goals and points. Through 16 games, Shulman has 9 goals and 3 assists for 21 points.
A year ago, Marschall appeared in 14 of the Terriers' 19 games and had just one goal. A native of Baton Rouge, LA, she was a four-year standout at Baton Rouge Magnet School. Her senior year, she scored 33 goals and added 27 assists and was named First Team All-State and the State's Division 1 MVP.
This is the second time in three weeks a Terrier player has been named the conference's player of the week. Two weeks ago, senior goalkeeper Jessica Clinton was similarly honored.
