Charest Leads Women's Tennis In Fall Finale At Dartmouth

HANOVER, NH - Sophomore Aimee Charest (Somerset, MA) won the consolation bracket at Dartmouth's Big Green Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 1, to lead the Terriers at the Big Green Invitational.
It marked the final tournament of the fall season for the Terriers.
Charest finished the competition with a 3-1 record in the Flight B Singles bracket. After losing her first match to Buffalo's Maggien Nenova in two sets, she rallied to win her next three matches en route to winning the consolation bracket. Her victories came against Niagara's Jacquelyn Cary, Buffalo's Katrin Fischer, and Army's Christine Bicksler, all in straight sets.
Four other Terrier women competed in the tournament, including freshman Erin Katims (Boca Raton, FL) in the Flight A Singles bracket, who went 1-1 for the day, falling to Harvard's Preethi Mukundan and defeating Army's Amber McGurelick, both matches ending in straight sets.
Senior Elisa Glas (Irun, Spain) posted a 1-2 records, with losses to Trine Juluissen of Syracuse in a third-set tiebreaker and Anne Catherine Valle of Stony Brook in two sets. Her win was over New Hampshire's Jenna Kafferly in straight sets.
Senior Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) lost both of her matches in third-set tiebreakers to Army's Ali del-Moral and Siena's Denisa Hluchova.
Freshman Gabby Hernandez (Palo Alto, CA) joined Charest in the Flight B Singles bracket, losing to Lauren Leo of St. Johns in two sets and Christine Bicksler of Army in a third-set tiebreaker.
In doubles play, Charest and Hernandez combined to finish with a 2-1 record, giving up no more than two games in three matches. They defeated Niagara's team of Aditi Krishnan and Cary, Buffalo's Erica Zielinski and Fischer, and Syracuse's Juluissen and Wei-Ming Leong.
DeMendoza and Katims also teamed up for three matches, losing to a Syracuse-Harvard team of Katie Bramante and Cindy Chu, respectively, and a Harvard team of Mukundan and Ashley Hyotte. They ended with a 1-2 record by defeating Siena's Rali Hristova and Andrea Disponzio.
