November 6, 2003 | Women's Soccer

BOSTON, MA-Terrier women's soccer coach Nancy Feldman along with senior co-captain Jessica Clinton and sophomores Melissa Shulman and Brittany McDonald received four of the major America East end-of-the-year awards on Thursday night, Nov. 6, at the conference's annual women's soccer awards banquet.
Feldman was named the Coach of the Year, while Clinton was the Goalkeeper of the Year, Shulman the Offensive Player of the Year, and McDonald the Defensive Player of the Year.
The voting for the special awards as well as the All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams was done by the 10 Conference coaches.

This past season, Feldman, guided the Terriers to an overall record of 11-5-4 and a 7-1-1 mark in the conference. They won their third America East regular-season title in four years and are the top seed in this weekend's conference tournament. This marks the fourth time in Feldman's nine-year coaching career at B.U. that she has been selected the Conference Coach of the Year. She was similarly honored in 1997, 2000, and 2001.
Clinton (Valley Stream, NY) was the goalie of record in all 20 of the Terrier games this year, as she played in all but 14 of the 1929 during the season. In addition to her 11-5-4 record, she had an 0.94 goals against average and a .785 save percentage. Her goals against average ranked second in the conference behind only Maine's Tanya Adorno, who had an 0.81 GAA.
Clinton also established three career records this season. Her 11 wins brought her career total to 36. Six of her wins were via shutouts, bringing her career total to 18. Finally, her 73 saves this season gave her 294 during her four-year career.

Shulman (Huntington, NY), who redshirted last season with leg problems, returned this year to lead the Terriers in goals (11), points (24), and game-winning goals (4), while she tied for the team lead in assists (5). She finished fourth in the conference in both points (1.35) and goals (0.55) per game.
As a freshman two years ago, she had 13 points on 6 goals and one assist. Thus, with still two years of varsity play ahead of her, she has 17 goals and 6 assists for 40 points for her career.
McDonald (Lindenhurst, NY) played virtually every minute of every game and was the leader of a Terrier defense that yielded just 20 goals in 20 games. In the last six regular-season games, the defense yielded just 3 goals, as the Terriers posted a 5-1-0 record. It was arguably the most important stretch of games during the season, as all six were against Conference opponents.

Clinton, Shulman, and McDonald were also selected First Team All-Conference and were joined on the First Team by sophomore Brooke Bingham (Duxbury, MA). Bingham, who like McDonald was on the America East All-Rookie Team last year, finished this season with 4 goals and 5 assists for 13 points. She tied for the team lead in assists, while she tied for third in goals and tied for second in points.
Sophomores Meghann Cook (Melrose, MA) and Susan Marschall (Baton Rouge, LA) were named Second Team All-Conference. Cook tied Bingham in scoring with 4 goals and 5 assists for 13 points, while Marschall had 5 goals and 3 assists for 13 points. Her goal total was second only to Shulman's team-leading 11 goals, while Marschall also tied for second on the team in game-winning goals with two.
Senior Emily Dionne (Rockland, MA) was the lone Terrier selected Honorable Mention. She had two goals, both of which were game-winners, while she also chipped in with four assists for eight points.
Finally, freshmen Lauren Erwin (Orange, CT) and Erica Lee (Oakton, VA) were voted to the Conference's All-Rookie Team. Erwin played in 19 of the Terriers' 20 games and had two goals, while Lee was an outstanding member of the Terrier defense and played in all 20 games.
