Terriers Blanked By #12-Ranked North Carolina, 7-0

The Terrier women's tennis team ventured into top-ranked territory on Friday (March 1st) when it took on 12th-ranked North Carolina and lost 7-0 to the host Tar Heels.
The Terriers are now 3-2 during the spring season and 4-3 overall.
Senior captain Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ) had the best match at number four singles before she lost, 6-3, 6-3, to North Carolina's Kendall Cline, who is ranked 110th in the NCAA. Cline is one of four Tar Heel singles players who are ranked nationally, while one of their three doubles tandems is also ranked.
The Tar Heels opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores. Aniela Majzi and Cline defeated the Terriers' Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) and Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) at number one. Kendrick Bunn and Kate Pinchbeck, who are the 29th-ranked doubles team in collegiate women's tennis, defeated B.U.'s Aimee Charest (Somerset) and Laura Ahmes (East Sarasota, FL). Finally, Marlene Mejia and Lee Bairos defeated Marcu and Elisa Glas (Irun, Spain).
UNC entered the singles play with a 1-0 lead by virtue of winning the doubles point.
In singles, the Tar Heels won all six matches in straight sets.
At number one, Pinchbeck, who is ranked 14th in singles in the NCAA, blanked Dynof, 6-0, 6-0 at number one. At number two, Mejia, ranked 64th, defeated deMendoza, 6-1, 6-1. Mojzis, ranked 41st, blanked Charest, 6-0, 6-0, at number three. At number four, Cline defeated Marcu, while Bairos defeated Glas, 7-6, 6-1, at number five. In the final singles match, Tanya Markovic defeated Ahmes, 6-2, 6-1.
