Terriers Shut Out By Yale, 7-0
April 15, 2003 | Women's Tennis

On tax day, the Terrier women's tennis team, which dressed just five players for the second straight match, was taxed by host Yale in a 7-0 loss on Tuesday (April 15th).
As was the case in last Saturday's (April 12th) match against Boston College, the Terriers were plagued by injuries so that they could dress just five players against the Elis. As a result, B.U. had to forfeit the numbers three doubles and six singles matches. In addition, everyone had to move up a spot in the lineup. The only exception was at number one singles where junior Lindsey Dynof (Colts, Neck, NJ) continued to play her usual position.
The closest match of the afternoon came at number four singles where junior Elisa Glas (Irun, Spain) won the first set of her match against Stephanie White, 6-2. However, White came back to win the second set, 6-3. Then, the two played a tiebreaker that White won, 10-4.
Yale won the other four singles matches in straight sets. At numbers one and two, the Elis won by the identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Elizabeth Kaufman defeated Dynof, while Margaret Purcell eliminated freshman Laura Ahmes (East Sarasota, FL). Finally, at number three, Susan Hiniker defeated senior captain Alana Marcu (Leonia, NJ), 6-3, 6-0. As noted above, the Terriers had to forfeit the number six singles match.
Yale started the match off by coming away with the point at doubles by virtue of winning both matches. At number one, Kaufman and Hiniker defeated Dynof and freshman Aimee Charest (Somerset), 8-2. Then, at number two, Purcell and Martin blanked Marcu and Glas, 8-0.
The Terriers are off now until next Tuesday (April 22nd) when they close out their regular-season with a home match against Quinnipiac. Three days later, on April 25th, they will begin quest of their 10th straight America East team title and their fifth straight berth in the NCAA Tournament.
