Albany Three-Run Seventh Sinks Terriers

STONY BROOK, N. Y. - The No. 2 University at Albany scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, taking a 3-0 win over No. 1 Boston University in a winner's bracket game in the 2003 America East Softball Championship at University Field on Friday, May 9.
The loss sends the Terriers (30-21) into an elimination game on Friday at 4 p.m. against the winner of the University of Maine/Stony Brook University game.
Albany (34-8) scored its three runs on two hits and three Terrier errors. The Great Danes' Maegan Larsen led off the seventh with a single. Stacy Kowal then reached on a fielder's choice, but a throwing error by B. U. sophomore shortstop Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) led to Albany's first run. UAlbany's Jen Nollette followed with a run-scoring fielder's choice to make the score 2-0.
After the Terriers' sophomore pitcher/center fielder Julie Henneke (Odessa, Fla.) replaced senior pitcher/outfielder Tiffany Finateri (Las Vegas, Nev.) in the circle, the Great Danes' Andrea Lindgren singled and an error by Finateri, playing left field, led to the final run.
Albany advances to the championship game on Saturday, May 10 at 12 p.m.
