Hanover, NH - Senior captain Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) and freshman Erin Katims (Boca Raton, FL) posted the best won-loss records, while sophomore Zuzana Melicherova (Caracas, Venezuela) returned to action after redshirting last year due to an injury, as the Terrier women's tennis team opened its 2003-04 season at the Dartmouth Volkl Shootout.
The three-day competition, which did not have any team scoring, concluded Saturday, Sept. 20 with head coach Lesley Sheehan able to see how some of her doubles teams would fare.
"This was an excellent opportunity for me to move players around each day and see how they would perform with each other," said the veteran coach. "Both Lindsay and Erin played well in both singles and doubles. It was also very good to see Zuzana back on the court after she missed all of last season. I had her play just two doubles matches, and she won both of them."
There was also singles competition in the two-day event, and Dynof came away with a 4-1 record playing at number one singles. That was also her record in doubles play. In the meantime, Katims, who played at number three singles, was 3-0 in both singles and doubles.
On Friday, the Terriers played four doubles matches against Colgate and emerged with a 3-1 record. The Terriers also played three doubles matches against the University of Connecticut and came away with a 2-1 edge. In addition, B.U. matched up against Dartmouth in seven singles matches, and B.U. won four of the seven.
Saturday's activities included singles matches against Colgate and Brown and a doubles match against Dartmouth. In singles play, the Terriers were 6-1 against Colgate, while Brown had a 4-2 edge in the six matches. In the doubles play, Dartmouth swept the three matches.
