Sabatino, Hernandez Lead Terriers At Dartmouth Invitational

HANOVER, NH-Freshman Gina Sabatino won the consolation of the Flight A, while sophomore Gabbi Hernandez was a finalist in the B consolation division to highlight the Terrier women's performance at the Dartmouth Invitational this past weekend.
It was the final fall tournament for the Terriers who will open the spring portion of their schedule on January 22nd when they host the University of New Hampshire.
Sabatino (Waltham, MA) lost her first match to Syracuse's Catherine Zawadaski 6-2, 6-4, but then came back and won the next two straight. In her second match, Sabatino faced Buffalo's Mignlena Nenova and won in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 10-3. In her third match, she defeated Carolina Huiginard of Syracuse 6-3, 6-0, and finished the day with a 2-1 singles record.
Hernandez (Palo Alto, CA) finished with a 2-2 singles record. She lost her opening match to Kelly Kirkpatrick of Brown, 6-0, 6-1. She then bounced back with a win over New Hampshire's Jessica Porter, 7-5, 3-6, 10-6, and a victory against Syracuse's Wei-Ming Leung, 7-5, 6-2. In her final match, Hernandez lost to St. John's Lauren Lorenzetti, 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Aimee Charest (Somerset, MA) won one of her singles match against Syracuse's Leung, 7-6, 7-5. Also competing for the Terriers in the singles division were juniors Monica Shepherd (Austin, TX) and Cheri Lapane (Reading, MA).
The doubles team of Shepherd and Sabatino won their first match against Connecticut's Jennifer LoRusso and Christine Burck, 8-4 but then lost to Syracuse 8-2. Charest and freshman Katarina Draganova (Coral Springs, FL) won their first match against Syracuse, 8-5, then lost to Brown, 8-1, and Connecticut, 8-4. Lapane and Hernandez won their first match against Buffalo's Katrin Fisher and Andrea Novaceanu, 8-6 and then lost to St. John's 8-3.
