Terriers Edge Cornell, 4-3

Thanks to impressive performances by its doubles teams, the Boston University women's tennis team improved to 2-2 on the spring with a 4-3 win over Cornell University at the Track and Tennis Center on Sunday, February 13.
It was the second straight win for the Terriers, who have played all four of their matches at home.
B.U. earned the deciding point in the match by sweeping the doubles matches, 3-0. Two of those matches were decided by two points.
The number two doubles team of freshman Gina Sabatino (Waltham, MA) and junior captain Monica Shepherd (Austin, TX) defeated Melissa Tu and Erika Takeuchi 8-0, but it was not as easy going at numbers one and three doubles.
The top doubles team of Laura Ahmes (East Sarasota, FL) and Erin Katims (Boca Raton, FL) stopped Akane Kokabo and Molly Edinson, 9-7, while Aimee Charest (Somerset, MA) and Katerina Draganova (Sofia, Bulgaria) earned an 8-6 win over Kasia Preneta and Kara Maloy at third doubles to help BU earn the all-important doubles point.
The Terriers split the singles matches with the Big Red, winning at numbers one, two and three singles.
Ahmes defeated Kokabo, 6-3, 6-2 at number one, and Sabatino beat Preneta 6-2, 6-2 at number two, while Charest stopped Edinson 6-4, 6-3 at number three.
Cornell's wins came at number four, five and six where Takeuchi beat Shepherd, 6-4, 7-5, at four, Suda beat Draganova, 6-2, and the first set and was leading 1-0 in the second set when Draganova had to retire. Then, at number six, Tu beat Cheri Lapane, 7-5, 2-6 (10-2).
B.U. will next face New Hampshire on Thursday, February 17th at the Track and Tennis Center, in a match rescheduled from January 22. The Terriers and Wildcats should get underway at 3 pm.
