BOSTON - The Terrier women's tennis team bounced back from its first loss of the spring season against Harvard on Saturday with an impressive, 7-0, win over the University of Cincinnati at the Terriers' Track and Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 22.
The Terriers, who had dropped a 5-2 decision to the 11th-ranked Crimson as their spring record slipped to a 3-1, shook off that loss with their third shutout of the spring and fourth win overall.
The Terriers started off by winning the first two doubles matches, while Cincinnati defaulted the third match. At number one doubles, senior captain Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) and sophomore Aimee Charest (Somerset, MA) defeated the Bearcats' Lynsey Molony and Hannah Hilton, 8-6. Then, at number two doubles, the team of sophomore Laura Ahmes (Sarasota, FL) and senior Elisa Glas (Irun, Spain) eliminated Christina Reyes and Samantha Liu, 8-4.
In singles play, Dynof had the most impressive performance as she did not lose a game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Molony. Charest, playing at number five singles, lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Liu.
At number two singles, senior Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Reyes, while Glas had the toughest match of the afternoon but defeated Hinton, 4-6, 6-2 (10-5).
Ahmes finished up the Terrier sweep with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Jill Klauck.
Freshman Gabby Hernandez (Palo Alto, CA) won her number six singles by default.
