Terriers Continue Successful Spring With Win Over Stony Brook

BOSTON, MA-The Terrier women's tennis team continued its impressive showing this spring with a 7-0 shutout of Stony Brook on Sunday, Feb. 29.
It was the fourth shutout of the spring for the Terriers who previously had blanked the University of New Hampshire, Binghamton, and Cincinnati. The victory also improved the team's record this spring to 5-1 as it also has a 6-1 win over Columbia and a 5-2 loss to Harvard.
Stony Brook had just five players so the Terriers were assured of winning the doubles point and five of the six singles matches.
In the doubles matches that were contested, senior captain Lindsey Dynof (Colts Neck, NJ) and sophomore Aimee Charest (Somerset, MA) defeated Anne Valle and Georgia Bushell at number one, while freshman Erin Katims (Boca Raton, FL) and senior Elena deMendoza (Madrid, Spain) bested Laura Conching and Patricia Gomez at number two doubles by the identical 8-4 score. Senior Elisa Glas (Irun, Spain) and sophomore Laura Ahmes (Sarasota, FL) won their number three doubles match by default.
In singles, Dynof, Katims, and Glas all won by the score of 6-0, 6-1. Dynof defeated Valle at number one. Katims eliminated Bushell at number three, and Glas beat Conching at number four.
DeMendoza had the toughest match at number two singles before she got by Gomez, 7-5, 5-7 (10-8). Finally, freshman Gabrielle Hernandez (Palo Alto, CA) defeated Olesya Ianovitch, 6-2, 6-2 at number five. Charest won her number six singles match by default.
