BALTIMORE, Md.- Freshman Ashlee Freeman (Northridge, Calif.) threw a shutout for the third consecutive time to lead Boston University to a 4-0 America East softball victory over UMBC in Balitmore on Saturday, April 10.
Offensively, sophomore first baseman Liz Alley (Aurora, Colo.) was instrumental in the victory, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a third-inning home run, her team-leading seventh of the season.
For her part, Freeman pitched her conference-leading 20th complete game, improving her record to 10-11 with a three-hit shutout. She struck out four and walked three in the win.
The Terriers got on the board in the top of the first inning as freshman second baseman Chiya Louie (Seatlle, Wash.) hit a sacrifice fly to score junior shortstop Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) and make the score 1-0.
UMBC threatened in the second inning when the Retreivers loaded the bases with one out. Freeman managed to get Tara Lindsey and Jen SanFilippo to fly out.
In the top of the third inning, Alley blasted a solo shot to give B.U. a 2-0 lead. The Terriers added two insurance runs in the seventh on an Alley two-run single to come away with the 4-0 victory.
The Terriers are scheduled to open their home schedule when they host the University of Massachusetts on Monday, April 12 at the B.U. Softball Field. Game time is 3 p.m. It's Pack the Park Day and the Terrier softball program welcomes the entire B.U. community to come out and enjoy the game.
