BOXSCORE GAME TWO - HOFSTRA 9, BOSTON UNIVERSITY 4 HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Hofstra's Stefanie Kenney batted 6-for-7 on the day with a home run as Hofstra swept a doubleheader from Boston University, 8-3 and 9-4, on Tuesday, April 6 at Hofstra Softball Stadium. B.U. slipped to 12-21 on the season, while Hofstra improved to 12-13 and extended its home winning streak to 19 games.
GAME ONE - HOFSTRA 8, BOSTON UNIVERSITY 3
Trailing 2-0 in the top of the third inning, freshman pitcher Ashlee Freeman (Northridge, Calif.) doubled in junior right fielder DeKenya Williams (San Diego, Calif.) to cut the Pride's lead to one run. An unearned run would follow to tie the score at 2-2.
Hofstra would add a third run in the bottom of the inning, and then explode for five runs in the fourth frame to take an 8-2 lead.
Freshman second baseman Chiya Louie (Seattle, Wash.) stroked a run-scoring single in the seventh to provide the final margin.
Freeman (7-11) went the distance in defeat. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Williams and Louie also had two hits in the game.
GAME TWO - HOFSTRA 9, BOSTON UNIVERSITY 4
Hofstra's Lisa Wambold hit a two-run double to cap a three-run second inning, helping the Pride take a 7-2 lead after three innings.
The Terriers scored two unearned runs in the third inning and a two-run homer by sophomore catcher Josey Mendez (Miami, Fla.) in the fourth cut the Hofstra lead to 7-4. The Pride would counter with a two-run homer of their own, with Kenney's blast pushing the Hofstra lead back to five runs at 9-4.
Mendez went 3-for-3 with two RBI in the second game.
Freshman pitcher Brittany Detwiler (Souderton, Pa.) took the loss. She gave up seven earned runs on eight hits in 3.0 innings pitched as her record fell to 3-6.
The Terriers open their America East schedule when they travel to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County for a three-game set on Friday, April 9 (2 p.m.) and Saturday, April 10 (12 p.m.)
