Women's Soccer Alumni Event Scheduled For October 17th
September 10, 2004 | Women's Soccer
BOSTON, MA--The Terrier women's soccer program will commemorate its 25th anniversary on October 17th as part of a day-long celebration highlighted by the Terriers' l:00 p.m. match against cross-town rival Northeastern University.
The activities will begin with a pre-game barbecue lunch prior to the varsity match. Then, after the game, there will be a silver anniversary dinner in the Eilberg Lounge. At the dinner, the past coaches and assistants who pioneered the program, along with former players, will be honored.
It has been 25 years since Boston University started a women's soccer program. However, during the early years, it was a club sport.
Then, prior to the 1995 season, the sport was elevated to varsity status, and the Terriers responded with a 10-3-2 record. Now in its 10th year as a varsity sport, the Terrier program has grown to one of the elite of the America East Conference.
Entering this year, the Terriers had amassed an overall record of 109-59-13 for a .638 winning percentage. In three of the last four years-2000, 2001, and 2003, B.U. has won the regular- and post-season America East titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
This year, the Terriers were picked to win the Conference title in a pre-season poll of the league coaches. Through the first three games, the Terriers were 3-0-0, and, for the first time in program history, they were ranked in the top-25 of the nation in a weekly poll.
