October 10, 2005 | Women's Soccer
Boston University freshman midfielder Marisha Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley HS) was named the America East women???s soccer co-Rookie of the Week Monday. Schumacher-Hodge helped lead the Terriers to a pair of victories over Albany and Binghamton last week to keep BU in first place in league play. The Terriers are 8-4-3 overall, 4-0-1 in the America East.
Schumacher-Hodge scored her first collegiate goal in the rainy 1-0 win over Binghamton Saturday night. She outjumped a slew of Binghamton defenders in the goal box on a ricocheted shot, and headed the ball past Bearcat keeper Kristie Bowers. The goal was the game-winner and kept BU unbeaten in league play. Schumacher-Hodge had just one assist on the year prior to Saturday???s key goal.
???Marisha has been a wonderful player for us this year,??? said BU head coach Nancy Feldman. She is a very smart with the ball and knows what to do with her touches. She is very mature for a freshman.??????
BU steps out of conference play for a match against Dartmouth Wednesday afternoon. Game time is 4 p.m. at Nickerson Field.
