Women's Soccer Set to Host America East Tournament

BOSTON - For the second time in three years and third time overall, the America East women's soccer tournament will be played at Nickerson Field and hosted by Boston University. The Terriers, by virtue of winning the league???s 2005 regular season title with a 7-0-1 record (11-4-4 overall), received a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the event. Maine, which finished 6-1-1 in league games (11-5-1 overall) is the second seed and also received a first-round bye.
Tickets can be purchased at Nickerson Field on game days. The cost is $6 for adults and $2 for students/seniors and children.
Fourth-seeded Vermont (4-3-1, 8-8-1) and No. 5 seed New Hampshire (8-7-2, 3-3-2) will kick-off the America East Tournament quarterfinals Friday afternoon at 11 a.m. The contest will followed by No. 3 seed Binghamton (9-6-3, 5-2-1) versus No. 6 seed UMBC (9-8-1, 3-4-1) at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The semifinals will take place on Sunday, Oct. 30. BU will play the winner of the Vermont-New Hampshire match at 12 p.m., while Maine will face the winner of the Binghamton-UMBC match at approximately 2:30 p.m.
The America East Tournament championship game will be played Nov. 5 or 6 at the site of the highest remaining seed. The winner of the conference tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Binghamton won the tournament title last year and advanced to the NCAA Championship where the Bearcats were beaten by Penn State. BU claimed the 2003 championship ??? on its home field, before falling to Connecticut in the NCAA Tournament.
