Terriers Look Impressive In First Win Of Spring Over Rutgers

BOSTON, MA-The Terrier women's tennis team won four of the six singles and all three doubles matches en route to an impressive 5-2 win over Rutgers at the Track and Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 6.
It marked the first win of the spring season for the Terriers, who had opened with back-to-back losses to Harvard and Columbia.
Against Rutgers, the Terriers got off on the right foot by winning the doubles point by virtue of sweeping all three matches.
Aimee Charest and Katarina Draganova had the easiest time at number three with an 8-0 blanking of Laura Edelschein and Helen Magomedova. At number one, Erin Katims and Laura Ahmes bested Katrina Elder-Bush and Anela Dujsic, 8-4, while Monica Shepherd and Gina Sabatino defeated Jill Markowitz and Alina Balasa, 8-2.
The Terriers continued to enjoy success in singles where they captured numbers three through six all in straight sets.
At number three, Sabatino eliminated Edelschein, 6-2, 6-2. Then, at number four, Charest beat Dujsic, 6-4, 6-0, while Shepherd won her match at number five, 5-78, 6-4, (10-8). Finally, Draganova defeated Magomedova, 6-0, 6-2.
The Terriers' only singles' losses came at numbers one and two as both Ahmes, at number one, and Katims, at number two, had to retire. Ahmes had to leave in the third set of her match against Elder-Bush. Elder-Bush lost the first set, 2-6, but bounced back to win the second set, 6-3. Then, in the third set, Ahmes was leading, 2-1, before she had to retire. At number two singles, Katims was losing 2-0 when she was forced to retire.
The Terriers will try to even their spring record on Sunday, Feb. 13, when they host Cornell at 10:00 a.m.
