Freeman Pitches Well But Softball Falls, 1-0, At Binghamton
April 16, 2005 | Softball
BOSTON - Boston University sophomore Ashlee Freeman (Northridge, Calif.) allowed four hits to Binghamton in the first two innings but no more. Unfortunately, one of those hits was a solo home run by Mary Beth Yerdon, allowing the Bearcats to come away with a 1-0 America East softball win over the Terriers on Saturday, April 16.
The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the slate was changed to a single game when a game official failed to arrive on time. The teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday, April 17 starting at 10 a.m.
Yerdon led off the second inning with a solo shot that made the score 1-0. The next batter, Meghan Quinn singled, and that was the last hit Freeman allowed for the rest of the game, leaving the Bearcats hitless for the final five innings.
Binghamton's Katie Hansen, who allowed five hits and no runs while striking out seven Terrier batters, matched Freeman's performance, however.
Senior shortstop Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) was the only Terrier with more than one hit. She went 2-for-4 to up her team-leading batting average to an even .400.
