Seven-Run Fourth Leads Softball Past Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. - A seven-run fourth inning propelled Boston University softball to a 7-1 win at the University of Vermont on Sunday, April 24 at Post Field.
B.U. improves to 16-16-1 overall and 5-4 in America East play with the win, while Vermont falls to 15-14 and 3-9. The Terriers' current six-game winning streak is their longest since the 2003 season.
The two teams were scheduled to play two games on Sunday, but rain only allowed the two teams to play one 5 p.m. contest
In the top of the fourth inning, B.U. exploded for seven runs on five hits and a pair of Catamount errors. Seniors DeKenya Williams (San Diego, Calif.) and Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) each had two-run doubles as the Terriers sent 11 batters to the plate with eight of the first nine reaching base.
Sophomore Ashlee Freeman (Northridge, Calif.) continued to pitch well. She scattered four hits and allowed only a single run to improve her record to 7-8. Kern (8-7) took the loss for UVM.
Vermont took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the second inning on as Sarah Toczylowski laced a line drive down the right field line plated Aimee Kern.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow, Monday, April 25, for a doubleheader at noon.
