Terriers Down Seawolves For 11th Consecutive Win

BOSTON - Sophomore Ashlee Freeman (Northridge, Calif.) and freshman Jenna Grapensteter (Bothel Washington) teamed up for a four-hitter as Boston University earned a 4-1 victory over Stony Brook on Saturday, April 30.
The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader but the second game was rained out. B.U. and Stony Brook will play a doubleheader on Sunday, May 1, at 12:00 p.m.
With their 11th straight win, the Terriers improve to 21-16-1 overall and 10-4 in America East, while the Seawolves drop to 19-29 and 9-7.
The Seawolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Kristen Brust hit a solo home run to left centerfield.
B.U. answered in the bottom of the inning as senior Jamie Haas (Houston, Texas) and sophomore Brandi Shields (Schererville, Ind.) led off with back-to-back singles, with both runners moving up a base on a throwing error by SB's Suzanne Turek. Sophomore Chiya Louie (Seattle, Wash.) drove both runners in with a two-run double to the right centerfield gap to give the Terriers a 2-1 lead. Louie advanced to third on a fly out by senior DeKenya Williams (San Diego, Calif.) and scored on a squeeze bunt by junior Liz Alley (Aurora, Colo.) to extend the lead to 3-1.
The Terriers added a run in the bottom of the sixth as Freeman drew a two-out walk and scored all the way from first on a double to left center by senior Christy King (Albuquerque, N.M.) to make it 4-1.
Freeman (10-8) earned the victory on the mound, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three and walking one over five innings of work. Grapensteter came on in the sixth, striking out three of the six batters she faced while not allowing a hit over two innings.
Sarah Hoffman (10-11) took the loss, allowing four runs on 10 hits while striking out three and walking one over six innings.
