Detwiler Named America East Softball Co-Pitcher Of The Week

BOSTON - Boston University sohomore pitcher Brittany Detwiler (Souderton, Pa.) earned a share of the final America East Pitcher of the Week award on Monday, May 9, marking the third straight week that a Terrier has won the award.
During that three-week span, the Terriers have gone 17-2, earning the No. 2 seed in this week's America East Softball Championship, held May 12-14 at Stony Brook University's University Field.
The Terriers have won 17 of 19 thanks in large part to improved pitching performances from their sophomores, Detwiler and Ashlee Freeman (Northridge, Calif.). Freeman earned the conference's pitching award the two week's prior to Detwiler's accolades.
Last week, Detwiler went 2-0 with a 1-24 earned run average in two starts. She went the distance in both starts, a 5-2 win over Stony Brook on May 2 and a 5-0 shutout at Hartford on May 8.
Against Stony Brook, she struck out 10 Seawolves' batters while allowing only a pair of earned runs on four hits. Against Hartford, she struck out 11 Hawks, setting the tone in the first inning by striking out the side. She allowed five hits and did not allow a run.
She made a relief appearance in a 4-3 loss at Massachusetts on May 3, going three innings and allowing a single run on two hits
On the season, Detwiler has an 8-6 record and a 3.78 ERA. She has 103 strikeouts to only 42 walks. She ranks fifth in America East in strikeouts and is tied for second with three shutout victories.
