Women's Tennis Routs Montreal, 7-0, in Season-Opener

BOSTON - The Boston University women's tennis team opened 2006 play with a convincing 7-0 blanking of Montreal in the teams' first-ever meeting on Friday afternoon at the Track & Tennis Center. The Terriers swept all three doubles matches, before outscoring their opponents 72-6 in the six singles matches for the shutout victory.
In doubles play, the duo of senior captain Monica Shepherd (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Gina Sabatino (Waltham, Mass.) posted an 8-2 win in the No. 1 slot, while freshmen Danielle Abraham (Waukesha, Wis.) and Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.) combined for a 8-1 win at No. 2. Sophomore Katarina Draganova (Coral Springs, Fla.) and senior Aimee Charest (Somerset, Mass.) completed the doubles sweep at No. 3, posting an 8-2 win.
The Terriers furthered their domination in singles action, starting with junior Erin Katims (Boca Raton, Fla.) earning the win in the top spot, 6-1, 6-0. Next up was Sabatino, who came through with a 6-2, 6-1 win, followed by 6-0, 6-0 victories by Lefkowith, Abraham and freshman Yana Sadovskaya (Riga, Latvia) at Nos. 3, 4 and 5, respectively.
Draganova closed out the competition in No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 score for the overall 7-0 BU win.
The Terriers return to action at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow versus Army at the Track & Tennis Center.
