CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Boston University women’s tennis team succumbed to 18th-ranked Harvard, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon for its first dual loss of the season after blanking both Montreal and Army last weekend. The Crimson won all three doubles matches before completing the sweep with all six singles points.
In doubles play, sophomore Gina Sabatino (Waltham, Mass.) and her No. 1 partner senior captain Monica Shepherd (Austin, Texas) fell to the nationally sixth-ranked combo of Elsa O’Riain and Laura Anderson, 8-3. At No. 2 was rookie duo Danielle Abraham (Waukesha, Wis.) and Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.) falling to Harvard’s Eva Wang and Stephanie Schnitter, 8-1. Finally, in the No. 3 spot, junior Erin Katims (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Yana Sadovskaya (Riga, Latvia) dropped an 8-2 decision to Laura Peterzan and Preethi Mukandan.
The Crimson continued to dominate in the singles competition, starting with reigning America East Rookie of the Year Sabatino being overcome by Wang, 6-1, 6-1 in the top spot. Next up was one of BU’s better chances of the afternoon, when Katims dropped a close 6-3, 6-4 match at No. 2 singles to O’Riain.
The Terriers’ three freshman, Sadovskaya, Abraham and Lefkowith were defeated at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0) by Laura Peterson, No. 4 (6-1, 6-0) by Keier Ko and No. 5 (6-1, 6-4) by Anderson, respectively, before Shepherd closed out play with a 6-1, 6-1 loss in the sixth slot to Schnitter.
