Field Hockey Falls at Vermont in Double OT, 2-1

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Boston University field hockey team had its five-game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, dropping a tough 2-1 road decision to Vermont in double overtime. Sophomore Holly Wiles scored the lone goal for the Terriers, who moved to 7-5 on the year and 2-1 in America East play.
Maegan Luce sent home a rebound in the 94th minute to propel the Catamounts to the victory and push their record to 8-5 overall with a 2-1 conference mark.
After a scoreless first half in which each team recorded four shots, Vermont got on the board with a goal by Kelly McClintock on an assist from Danielle Collins in the 45th minute.
BU earned the equalizer on one of its nine second-half penalty corners, as Wiles blasted a shot to the boards on assists from juniors Pam Spuehler and Sarah Shute at the 56:49 mark.
After time expired in regulation, each team went on to earn three penalty corners in overtime. With just 6:15 remaining in the second overtime sesssion, the Catamounts took advantage of their final penalty corner of the afternoon, as Luce collected a rebound off a save by BU netminder Erin Prediger before sending it to the boards.
Prediger made five saves for the Terriers, while redshirt freshman Kristen Heavens stopped eight BU shots, including two in the second overtime.
The Terriers will return to action on Sunday when they play host to Yale. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Jack Barry Field.
