CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Boston University field hockey team had its nine-game winning streak at Jack Barry Field come to an end on Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 6-0 decision to ninth-ranked Connecticut. The Huskies put together an impressive performance to extend their win streak to 10 contests. With the loss, the Terriers fell to 8-6 on the year.
Junior Lizzy Peijs recorded a hat trick for the Huskies, while senior Kristen Galuksi and sophomores Mandy Odenbach and Lindsay Leck each scored a goal for the visitors.
Odenbach opened the scoring in the 14th minute off a pass from classmate Lauren Aird. Under four minutes later, Peijs turned in an impressive effort, penetrating the circle from the right before approaching the goal and roofing a shot to the top left corner.
Leck and Peijs each scored off penalty corners in the final five minutes of the first half to give the Huskies a 4-0 halftime lead.
The Terriers were impressive coming out of the break, putting together strong scoring opportunities. However, BU was unable to find the back of the cage and suffered its first home loss of the season.
Galuski got on the board in the 42nd minute before Peijs completed her hat-trick effort with 13:31 left in regulation.
The loss was the Terriers' largest margin of defeat since a 7-0 setback against then-No. 4 Duke on Oct. 5, 2003, and it marked the first regular-season shutout loss at home since the 2004 opener against Maryland.
BU will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 21, when it visits Albany in a match-up for first place in the America East standings. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
