Field Hockey Wraps Up Non-Conference Play With Harvard
October 25, 2006 | Field Hockey
After posting a two-win weekend, the Boston University field hockey team will wrap up its non-conference schedule with a contest against cross-town rival Harvard. Last season at Jordan Field, Pam Spuehler’s overtime goal led the Terriers to a 2-1 victory, ending the Crimson’s four-game win streak in the series. In 27 all-time meetings with Harvard, BU holds a 14-12-1 advantage.
Scouting the Crimson: After dropping its first 10 contests, Harvard is 2-2 in its last four contests, including Ivy League victories over Cornell and Yale. Senior Gretchen Fuller has scored a team-high four goals on the year, while classmate Aline Brown has chipped in with six points on two goals and two assists. Sophomore Francine Polet leads the squad in assists with three while fellow sophomore Kelley Knoche has earned 11 starts in goal, posting a 2.08 goals against average and a save percentage of .773.
Dekker Earns Rookie Honors: After turning in the best offensive weekend of her young career, freshman Suus Dekker was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Monday. Dekker scored both goals in a thrilling 2-1 overtime road victory against Albany to move the Terriers into a four-way tie for first place in the league standings. The freshman sent home a rebound with 44 seconds left before halftime to give the visitors a 1-0 edge. After the Terriers earned a quick penalty corner in overtime, Dekker redirected a shot by Holly Wiles to the boards to end the game just 40 seconds into overtime. On Sunday, Dekker tallied her sixth goal of the year to help BU post a 7-0 victory over Dartmouth.
Up Next: The Terriers will close out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 28, when they welcome Maine to Jack Barry Field for a 1 p.m. contest. BU will honor its three-member senior class prior to the game.
If the Terriers are victorious against the Black Bears and Albany defeats Vermont, BU will host the America East Championships for the third straight year.
