
Four Softball Players Named NFCA Academic All-Americans

BOSTON - Senior Chiya Louie, sophomore Christy Leath, junior Tyler Benson and Liz Alley ('06) were named National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Academic All-American Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the NFCA. Student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 grade point average or above to receive the prestigious honor.
Louie is enrolled in the College of Communications and is second on BU’s all-time home runs list with 18. In 2006 she earned a .300 batting average, and knocked in her 70th career RBI in the ninth inning against Buffalo on March 11, placing her 10th on the all-time career list.
Leath had 182 at bats last season, third for for at bats in a season, to go along with her 40 RBIs and five homeruns. Her 82 hits last season is tied for eighth place for for hits in a season. Leath is an Occupational Therapy major at BU.
In addition to her NFCA honor, Benson was named to the ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District (Northeast Region) for her performance in the classroom, while averaging .282, knocking in 22 RBI and stealing 11 bases. Benson is enrolled in the College of Communications.
Liz Alley graduated from BU in 2006 with a degree from the College of Communications. Alley finished her career at BU ranked among its best hitters. She holds the record for career home runs (31), home runs in a season (12), as well as being tied for tenth in career hits (135) and tied for fifth in career doubles (27).
