November 3, 2006 | Field Hockey
BOSTON - Freshman Suus Dekker was named the 2006 America East Rookie of the Year and was one of three Terriers named to All-Conference First Team at the league's annual field hockey banquet held on Thursday evening at BU's George Sherman Union. In all, six Terriers collected honors, including three juniors, a sophomore and a pair of freshmen.
Juniors Sarah Shute and Pam Spuehler joined Dekker on the All-Conference First Team, while junior Laura Dean and sophomore Holly Wiles earned spots on the second team. Dekker and redshirt freshman Haley Robinson were selected to the all-rookie team.
Dekker became the third straight BU player to claim Rookie of the Year honors as Spuehler and Wiles collected the award in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
The Terriers (12-6, 4-1 AE) wrapped up a share of their third consecutive America East regular-season crown and have earned the right to host the conference tournament for the third straight season.
Top-seeded BU will face Vermont, the No. 4 seed, on Friday, Nov. 3, at noon before second-seeded Albany takes on third-seeded Maine at approximately 2:30 p.m. The two winners will meet on Sunday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. for the championship game. All contests will be held at Jack Barry Field.
