Softball Faces Maine in America East Tournament

The Boston University softball team takes on Maine in the first round of the America East Tournament Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The Terriers (26-27) enter the double-elimination tournament as the no. 4 seed and face top-seeded Maine (35-17) at Kessock Field, in Orono, Maine. Albany (33-10-1) takes on UMBC (45-18) in the opener at noon. The winners face each other on Friday at 11 a.m., with the losers squaring off in an elimination game Friday at 1:30 p.m.
BU went 1-2 against Maine this season, including a 2-1 victory in Boston on Apr. 12, a 4-2 setback on Apr. 12 and a 6-4 loss Apr. 26, in Orono. The Terriers dropped two of three to UMBC and won two of three at Albany.
BU has qualified for its seventh consecutive America East Tournament. The Terriers won the tournament in 2002 and 2003 and lost in the title game in 2000, 2001 and 2004. BU is led into the tournament by head coach Shawn Rychcik (52-46-1, 2nd season overall, and at BU).
