BOSTON – The Boston University women’s tennis team capped an America East Championship victory with 12-of-13 possible All-Championship spots, as voted by league’s coaches for outstanding play at the conference tournament and announced on May 9. The Terriers swept both Stony Brook and Binghamton to earn their 13th-consecutive conference championship.
The All-Championship Team included junior Erin Katims (Boca Raton, Fla) at first singles, followed by sophomore Gina Sabatino (Waltham, Mass.) in the second singles position. Freshman Yana Sadovskaya (Riga, Latvia) took fourth singles, while freshmen Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.) and Danielle Abraham (Waukesha, Wis.) took fifth and sixth, respectively.
BU also swept all three doubles teams with Sabatino and senior captain Monica Shepherd (Austin, Texas) the number one pair. Katims and senior Laura Ahmes (Sarasota, Fla.) were the number two doubles team, while Lefkowith and Abraham took the third doubles pair.
Binghamton's Jelena Koprivica prevented the BU sweep of the All-Championship Team by earning a selection at third singles.
During the tournament, Katims led the way for BU, winning at both second doubles and first singles en route to being named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Performer.
The Terriers travel to the University of Miami to take on the No. 7 Hurricanes in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday, May 12, at 1:00 p.m.
