Spuehler Earns America East Player of the Week Honors
September 26, 2006 | Field Hockey
BOSTON - After leading the Boston University field hockey team to a pair of important home wins, junior Pam Spuehler has been named America East Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Spuehler ignited a come-from-behind victory over No. 7 Virginia on Sunday with her first goal of the season.
The junior turned the tides against the Cavaliers when she turned in a fantastic individual effort in the 52nd minute to knot the score at 1-1. She collected a ball outside the 25-yard line and dribbled through a trio of defenders before slotting a shot to the far corner of the cage from eight yards out.
Her standout play on both ends of the field also helped the Terriers claim a 1-0 victory over cross-town rival Northeastern on Friday. For the year, Spuehler has tallied a goal and a team-high three assists.
BU (5-4) will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30, when it opens up America East play with a road contest against New Hampshire (1-7). Game time is set for 1 p.m.
