May 11, 2007 | Softball
BOSTON - The Boston University softball team was eliminated from the 2007 America East Tournament with a 7-2 loss to Hartford on Friday afternoon at BU Softball Field. Senior Brandi Shields and sophomore Melissa Dubay each recorded solo home runs as the Terriers finished the season with a 34-14 overall record. Freshman pitcher Megan Currier suffered the loss in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings, striking out one batter and allowing six runs.
Hartford starter Brittany Stratton took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, until Shields crushed a solo shot to right center that put the Terriers on the scoreboard. With two outs and on a 2-2 count, Dubay hit a long ball to right field in the seventh to cut the deficit to five runs, however, that is as close as the Terriers were able to get as a fly out to center field ended the game.
Hartford struck first with a single to center field in the first and went up by three with a two-run homer in the fourth. It pushed one more across the plate on a double to center field that rounded out its four-run fourth inning. The Hawks added three more runs in the sixth on a wild pitch, a double and a sacrifice fly.
The Terriers finish the 2007 season with a 34-14 overall record and 17-3 America East mark.
