Women???s Tennis Adds Steiner, Zakharchenko For 2007-08

BOSTON – The Boston University women’s tennis team welcomes Vanessa Steiner and Daria Zakharchenko to the roster for the 2007-08 season, as announced by head coach Lesley Sheehan. Steiner and Zakharchenko will bolster a program that has won 14 straight America East championships and earned nine consecutive NCAA bids.
Steiner, an Indiana University High School graduate, competed for IU HS as a senior, Hampton High School as a sophomore and a junior and Fox Chapel High School as a freshman. She earned MVP honors twice at Hampton, playing No. 1 singles. Steiner was the state doubles champion as a sophomore, while her team was the state champion. The Hampton, Pa., native was a state doubles finalist and team MVP as a junior, and she went undefeated in singles at Fox Chapel, Hampton and Indiana University.
Zakharchenko competed on the Russian National Tour and ranked 74th in 16 and under and 95th in 18 and under. A graduate of Gymnasium #1, she was also a star in the classroom, graduating with honors and winning school, city and regional Olympiads in English, French and Russian.
