COLUMBIA, Mo. - A solo home run in the seventh broke a 6-6 tie as the Boston University softball team fell to host Missouri, 7-6, on the second day of the Tiger Invitational. Juniors Brooke Hudson and Shayne Lotito led with two RBI, while freshman Kelley Engman suffered the loss in the pitcher's circle. BU falls to 2-6 overall and will face South Dakota State at 6:30 p.m.
Lotito led with a 2-for-4 performance while senior Molly Gallagher, freshman April Setterlund and juniors Christy Leath and Melissa Dubay also crossed home plate. Sophomore pitcher Cassidi Hardy pitched the first four innings, allowing six runs, five earned, while striking out five batters. Engman took over in the fifth, pitched two scoreless inning and struck out one batter, while giving up one earned run.
Trailing by six going into the bottom of the fourth, the Terriers mounted a rally beginning with Hudson's double to center field that plated Dubay and Leath. BU tacked on one run in the fifth on Lotito's single through the right side that brought home senior Molly Gallagher. BU knotted the game at six in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. Gallagher and Hudson scored on a throwing error and Lotito brought home Setterlund on a single up the middle.
A solo home run in the top of the seventh gave Missouri a one-run lead and pitcher Jana Hainey retired three BU batters in order to secure the victory.
