BOSTON - The Boston University softball team (11-11) swept St. Peter's in the home opener Thursday afternoon at BU Softball Field. Sophomore Cassidi Hardy struck out 10 batters in a 3-1 victory in the first game, while freshman April Setterlund led the offense with three hits and three RBI collectively in both games. Head coach Shawn Rychcik earned his 100th career win in the Terriers' 6-1 triumph in the second game. BU returns to action on Saturday, March 29 when it hosts its conference opener against Vermont at 1:00 p.m.

Setterlund had a productive afternoon, hitting .500 with one run, one double and three RBI. Hardy improved to 5-4 with a standout performance in the circle, striking out 10 batters, issuing one walk and allowing just one run in a complete-game effort. Classmate Megan Currier was credited with the win in the second game, holding the Peahens scoreless through the first six innings, striking out one batter and allowing one earned run.

In the first game, BU found itself at a one-run disadvantage following SPC's lead-off home run in the first; however, it responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning with junior Melissa Dubay's double that drove in classmate Shayne Lotito and Setterlund.

In the second frame, Hardy retired the batters in order and Setterlund's double down the left line upped the Terriers' lead, 3-1. Over the final five innings, both pitchers kept the bats quiet and held the score at 3-1.

Dubay led with two RBI, while Setterlund and Lotito went 2-for-3 apiece.

In game two Lotito set the tone, blasting a long ball to left center to give BU the early 1-0 lead and in the bottom of the second, Hebert knocked her first home run of the season over the center field fence on a full count.

In the fourth, Setterlund drove in two runs on a single up the middle to move the score to 4-0. Freshman Caitlin Rentler picked up her first collegiate hit with an RBI double to right center that plated sophomore Rachel Moeller and then scored on the next play when freshman Melanie Delgado singled to left field.

St. Peter's spoiled the shutout with an RBI double to center field in the seventh; however, Currier forced a ground out on the next at-bat to end the game and improve to 3-4 in the circle.

BU will take on Vermont on Saturday, March 29 in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m., and conclude the series on Sunday, March 30 at noon.
