BOSTON - The Boston University softball team (23-14) collected eight hits, but was unable to produce a run as it dropped a 7-0 decision to cross-town rival Boston College (21-24) on Wednesday afternoon at BU Softball Field. Junior Shayne Lotito led with a 2-for-4 performance in the batter's box, while sophomore hurler Megan Currier was charged with the loss in the circle. BU will host Atlantic 10 foe UMass on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
Seven different Terriers collected a hit on Wednesday afternoon, but the squad left 10 on base as BC's Allison Gage went the distance, striking out five batters to earn her 10th win of the season. For the Terriers, Currier (7-6) struck out four, walked two and allowed three runs on three hit, while freshman Kelley Engman came into the game for the final 2.2 innings and gave up four runs on two hits.
After two scoreless innings, the Eagles loaded the bases on a walk and back-to-back singles then scored on the next two at-bats to take the 2-0 lead. BC struck again in the fifth with a three-run homer to right center and tacked on two more in the seventh on two-run long ball.
The Terriers made a valiant effort in the bottom of the seventh, when they loaded the bases with two outs; however, Gage forced a ground out to secure the win for the Eagles.
BU will return to action on Thursday when it hosts in-state rival UMass at 3:30 p.m.
