BOSTON - The Boston University softball team (26-17, 12-3 AE) will host Binghamton (6-30, 1-14 AE) in a three-game series this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and concluding on Sunday at noon. BU leads the all-time series by a commanding 17-3 margin.
Binghamton enters Saturday's contests on a five-game losing streak; however, it picked up its first conference win on April 12 in a 10-9 victory over Vermont. Sandy Meadows leads the Bearcats with a .260 batting average, while Deannie Plemon is the team's RBI leader with 19. Meadows is also dangerous on the base paths, going a perfect 14-for-14 in stolen bases.
The Terriers have lost back-to-back games over a two-day span to Maine and Harvard, but will look to rebound heading into this weekend's home finale before traveling to league-leading Albany to determine the regular-season champion.
Freshman April Setterlund leads the conference in batting with a .374 average to go along with 10 doubles, 12 RBI and 13 stolen bases. Junior Melissa Dubay is the team's RBI leader (27), and classmate Shayne Lotito has swiped 16 bags this season. Junior Brooke Hudson is two doubles away from tying a single-season record. Sophomore Cassidi Hardy leads the Terriers' pitching rotation with a 12-5 record and 2.09 ERA. She has struck out 104 batters in 22 appearances.
As a team, the Terriers rank sixth nationally in double plays per game (0.49) and lead the conference in fielding percentage (.973).
BU will take on Harvard one more time on Thursday, May 1 at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to Albany on Saturday to determine the regular-season champion.
On Sunday, the Terriers will honor their two seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
